Leaf Peeping in Style: Luxurious Getaways for Fall Foliage Lovers

Cooler temperatures, crisp air, and landscapes with vibrant shades of red, orange, and gold – there’s something undeniably magical about fall! The season offers a perfect blend of stunning natural beauty and high-end experiences for luxury travelers. Just imagine exploring some of the world’s most breathtaking foliage while staying in stunning accommodations that bring the season’s magic to life.

Here’s your guide to the most spectacular fall foliage destinations that promise a getaway steeped in seasonal beauty.

Top Destinations for Fall Foliage

1. New England, USA

No list of fall destinations would be complete without New England. Renowned for its quintessential autumn charm, New England offers a classic foliage experience. Here you can drive down scenic country roads, go leaf-peeping on a leisurely hike in the White Mountains, stroll through quaint little towns, or enjoy a cozy evening by the fire at a luxury inn. Upscale accommodations, especially in Vermont and Maine, provide the perfect home base to soak in the sights. Plus, many offer unique seasonal experiences like cider tastings, private guided hikes, and curated picnics.

2. Loire Valley, France

Known as the Garden of France, the Loire Valley is a breathtaking destination in any season, but it truly comes alive in the fall. The region’s rolling landscapes are decorated in the colors of the season, making it an idyllic destination for foliage lovers. Here you can explore the picturesque villages, sip world-class wines during the harvest, and indulge in gourmet meals featuring locally grown ingredients. Luxury travelers can stay in castle hotels or grand châteaux and enjoy private wine tastings, hot air balloon rides over the countryside, or leisurely bike rides through the vines.

3. Kyoto, Japan

Kyoto’s iconic temples, shrines, and gardens are even more breathtaking in the fall. The city’s maple and ginkgo trees burst into color creating serene pathways decorated in reds and golds. A stay in a traditional ryokan may offer multi-course kaiseki dinners, hot spring onsen baths, and a private garden view that will only amplify the season’s beauty. For a truly unique experience, book a private tea ceremony or a guided tour of Kyoto’s less-traveled fall foliage spots.

4. Tuscany, Italy

Tuscany in the fall is a delight for the senses. The region’s vineyards and olive groves turn into a beautiful collage of warm colors! Stay in a lavish villa or countryside estate, complete with private chefs, infinity pools, private wine tastings, and vineyard tours. Here you can walk through the winding streets of medieval towns, enjoy a private truffle hunt, or book a cooking class with a local chef. For those most interested in gourmet experiences, you can also savor local delicacies and hearty farm-to-table Tuscan cuisine.

Luxury Lodging Options

Where you stay is just as important as where you go, and luxury accommodations can play a pivotal role in elevating your fall getaway. Embrace the season’s beauty and charm with these lodging options that promise a memorable stay.

  • Boutique Hotels and Inns: These intimate properties often capture the essence of fall with thoughtful touches like fireplaces, locally sourced seasonal meals, and fall-themed décor. Enjoy personal service and unique, curated experiences such as apple picking or private carriage rides through colorful landscapes.

  • Villas and Estates: For a more private stay with all the amenities of a five-star hotel, consider renting a villa or estate. Many properties include private guides who can arrange customized foliage tours, winery visits, and even personal chefs to prepare fall-inspired meals in the comfort of your accommodation.

  • Wellness Retreats: Wellness retreats offer the perfect balance of relaxation and fall’s beauty. Unwind with spa treatments, yoga sessions, and healthy seasonal cuisine while surrounded by tranquil landscapes. Many retreats also offer guided nature walks that showcase the best of the season’s colors.

Have you ever dined alone? No, not at home, but going out on the town and treating yourself to the best. There seems to be a strange stigma around dining alone—especially in a fine dining establishment. I am here to tell you to get out of your own way—and celebrate you. I traveled to the Loire Valley in France to explore the region and scout for an upcoming book club journey. There’s something incredibly magical about the Loire Valley—the gentle hills, the vineyards stretching to the horizon, and the castles that whisper stories of centuries past.
Five women in ballgowns stand on the stairs of the Biltmore Hotel LA for Romantasy Book Con
By Becky Olson February 26, 2025
Recently, I traveled to Los Angeles. Originally, I had planned on writing about the many fun adventures I had on my first LA trip. However, as it sometimes goes with work travel, I mostly saw the inside of the hotel. At least this hotel was the historic and iconic Biltmore . If you aren’t familiar with the Biltmore, opening on October 1, 1923 it has established a long history of elegance and opulence. Its very presence was a statement to the rest of the world that Los Angeles, which was a young city at the time, had arrived to metropolis status. Unsurprisingly, it quickly rose to fame as the hotspot for Hollywood elite, glamorous parties, and the backdrop for many popular movies. The Biltmore still radiates that grandiose, old-school charm, well-suited for the reason I was there, the Fabled Fantasy Events Romantasy Book Convention. Romantasy is the perfect melding of Romance and Fantasy and, as a genre, has been blowing up in popularity (for good reason). Authors, book industry professionals, entertainers, vendors, and fans gathered to celebrate their favorite books.

There’s nothing quite like a getaway with your girlfriends to recharge your soul and remind you of the joy of simply having fun. Whether it’s sipping wine by the beach, exploring a vibrant city, or indulging in long, laughter-filled conversations, spending time with your closest friends is the perfect way to step away from the hustle of everyday life. This Galentine’s Day is a perfect excuse to ping your friends and plan your adventure together. Go ahead and treat yourselves to an adventure that’s all about relaxation, fun, and friendship. The first question to ask the group is—how much time do you have? From a weekend escape to a bucket-list checkmark—you have plenty of choices depending on the availability of your friends. Here we go over some ideas based on three lengths of stay. Remember, these are just some ideas to spark your wanderlust, the world is full of adventure just waiting for you. Weekend Trips It’s hard enough to align everyone’s schedules for a simple dinner together, let alone a whole trip. A lighthouse sits on top a rugged cliff, against a blue sky with ocean waves beating the shore.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Cliff House in Maine . If you are thinking, “recently,” and then looking at your calendar—yes, in January. Some say that Maine in the winter is a best-kept secret, and I now agree. It’s a reminder that off-season travel can still make for a magical experience and the Cliff House is one of the best places to find that magic for yourself. The Cliff House is open year-round but only open Thursday-Sunday during the off-season (most of December through April, check the website for exact dates). When you step into the lobby, you might immediately notice the floor-to-ceiling windows with magnificent ocean views, all complimented by an immersive maritime aesthetic. The feeling extends to the guest rooms. My group stayed in the newest addition, Ledges (completed in 2018). When you reach your room—you can continue to watch the magnificent winter waves crash against the cliffs because all the rooms are oceanside. Each floor had fresh coffee and water stations stocked with a variety of farm-fresh milk and apples. It was a delightful touch.

No matter how many times you visit, there’s a certain magic to France that never fades. For me, this trip wasn’t just about exploring—it was about savoring: the buttery richness of Chantilly cream, the effervescence of perfectly chilled champagne, and the quiet luxury of a château at sunset. My 5-night educational trip with Relais & Châteaux offered all that and more, blending indulgence with discovery in a way only France can. Here’s a glimpse into my unforgettable journey.
