Popular travel destinations can sometimes fill up a year (or more!) in advance. It may seem extreme to say, “Italy is sold out this summer,” but for the past few years, that’s pretty much been the case.
The thrill of booking a spur-of-the-moment trip can be exhilarating, but designing your itinerary well in advance is especially crucial when you’re planning to travel for a particular reason. (Think weddings, honeymoons, family reunions, or any trip revolving around a specific event.)
We put together a guide to help with your travel planning so that when we work together, you’ll receive the best options and rates for hotels, tours, and more.
Peak Season Travel
Peak season includes summer (June-August), spring break (March-April), and the festive season (Christmas and New Year). If you anticipate traveling during these times, you’ll want to at least put your plans on your travel designer’s radar a year in advance. Or even earlier if you’re proactive – we love a bucket list!
Other factors that can come into play in regard to peak season are the size of the group you’ll be traveling with, the types of tours you’re interested in (Christmas Markets or Tulip / Lavender season), and your hotel or resort preferences (4-star vs. 5-star).
Europe
European vacations are one of the most sought-after travel experiences for Americans. Beginning the planning process for your trip 9 months out is ideal. 12 months is recommended if you’re traveling to in-demand destinations such as Italy, Ireland, Greece, or Iceland – especially during the peak seasons mentioned above.
Caribbean / Mexico / Hawaii
These destinations are particularly popular during the holiday season and spring break, which means prices will skyrocket during these times, and availability will become limited if you wait too long to secure your resort. To avoid undesirable price hikes, we recommend booking 6-9 months out, but 12 months is preferred if you’ll be traveling during peak seasons.
Asia / South Pacific / Central & South America
A good rule of thumb for these locales is to book between 6-9 months out. Each destination has their own peak travel time (April to July for Asia, and November to February for the South Pacific, Central & South America), so be sure to give yourself enough time to consult with us to curate the perfect travel itinerary for you.
Cruises
Cruise lines offer some truly incredible early booking promotions, so securing your sail date 12-24 months out is recommended in order to take advantage of them. However, if your travel plans are flexible and you aren’t picky about your room category, anytime is a great time to book your next cruise. Wave Season promotions typically happen at the start of the year (January-February), so now is the perfect time to engage your travel advisor to learn about special promotions.
